There are many things that make Prison Architect, and we’ll get to most of them, but one of the most interesting things about this game is an incredible story created by professional writer Chris Hastings. 

The campaign itself consists of Chapters, each telling the story of a different character that is, in the end, connected to each other. The clock starts ticking from the start, so make sure you took care of, you know, the business.

There are additional chapters focusing on other areas of prison life, so remember to check them out as well!


Modos de jogo


There are two modes in this game – Campaign with a great story and a sandbox mode for your own imagination!

 

There are two game modes in Prison Architect – the store campaign we’ve mentioned earlier and a sandbox mode. 

As a ruthless warden, it is your duty to complete a campaign (that is also a tutorial). Then, head out to lay the last brick near a holding cell before the sun casts, and your prisoners raise their weary heads from the slumber to head to the workout area. Even the mafia dons have to sleep sometimes, you know?

The main goal in sandbox mode is to make your prisoners stay inside. You can do it in many different ways, but it’s best to show them how they can have a better future rather than treating them like animals and increasing gang activity in prison.


Build Your Own Confinement!


There’s a lot of building around here so make sure you create everything the right way! There are a lot of tools and customization, so get creative with it!

 

You can do a lot of customization in your prison. Think about what should be where and make sure the foundations are solid! Create your own offices, holding cells, individual cells, showers canteen, and many, many more! As a Prison Architect, you have many things at your disposal, so enjoy using them wisely! 

You can gain a lot of money by running your own prison, so, if it’s profitable – sell it with profit and create an even better one! Or just retire. How many prisons do we really need after all? 

You can choose from 3 different varieties of prisoners – low, normal, and max security, each bringing you different amounts of money from the government. Don’t mistreat them, make sure they have good food, an education program, or some labor for job experience.


Manage Your Prison


It’s not all about building – it’s also about managing! Make sure you spend as much as you need to so that your Shawshank does not go bankrupt fast!

 

The building aspect, however interesting, is still not the only thing that makes this game so popular. There is also a managing aspect that you should consider while creating your own Shawshank.

Money is everything, so build while you can, but not too much, because you’ll end up broke. If you don’t create enough possibilities for your inmates or won’t arm your guards with enough equipment – you’ll have another problem on your hands.

Delegate your duties to the office staff that can unlock parts of a research tree for you. There are many options, so make sure you check what your inmates need, not what you think they might!

  • Customize everything! – it’s a human misery set in a digital version of prison, so make it your own creation. Look at prisoners eating in a fancy cafeteria or design an electric chair for the execution chamber. 
  • Innovation time – you are, sort of, a Dungeon Keeper so call the power-crazed senators (or satan, like in the original) to bring another yellow bus with instant delivery of some orange-suited ruthless inmates. Do what you can to create a future prison – or not – the choice is yours. Don’t spend all of the federal money in one place!
  • Recruit your staff! – create a personalized penitentiary with guards, psychologists, lawyers, and undercover snitches.
  • Everyone is different – even the inmates – so make sure you check out each prisoner’s criminal history to resocialize them into normal society. That’s what the prisons are for, after all!
  • Change the roles – try to escape from your own Prison in Escape Mode or test one of 12,000 prisons created by players. Check out how hard it is to beat the system you’ve created!
