Shenmue III is a continuation of a series of Japanese RPGs that began in 1999 on the Dreamcast console. The creation of the third part started 14 years after the premiere of the previous installment. The production was carried out by Yu Suzuki, father of the series, thanks to the support of fans — during the campaign a total of over USD 7.1 million was obtained (of which over 6.3 million was collected as part of the first collection at Kickstarter).
Shenmue III begins in the village of Bailu in the Chinese prefecture of Guilin, and then moves to another village — Choubu. Play as Ryo Hazuki, an 18-year-old Japanese martial artist hellbent on avenging his father’s death. In this third installment of the epic Shenmue series, Ryo seeks to solve the mystery behind the Phoenix Mirror, an artifact sought after by his father’s killer. His journey takes him to an immersive representation of rural China, brimming with activity and surrounded by beautiful landscapes. Ryo’s adventure leads him to towns and mountain villages where he can further his training, try his hand at gambling, play arcade games, and work part-time jobs while investigating those who know truth behind the Phoenix Mirror.
We observe our hero from behind, from the so-called TPP cameras. The game allows you to explore sizable locations, full of all sorts of details, missions and activities. We can also talk to every character we encounter, just like in the previous parts of the series, we must earn the money we need in various situations (and also simply to survive). In the game we will find a realistic cycle of day and night, which affects the behavior of individual characters, as well as events in the presented world. The combat system is a bit like what we know from classic fighting games. The player has a variety of blows at his disposal; can also learn new combinations.
